Bill Johnson has
studied many Martial Arts
and several Close Quarters Combat Systems. He is now the Australian
Representative for Canadian Law Enforcement legend Bill Wolfe's Modern
Defendo
System, a reality based system of fighting used by the military.
Bill has trained in
Hungary, Mexico, Italy, Japan, Thailand, England, Canada and
the U.S.A. and learnt from old style boxers, street fighters and pub
doormen, through to traditional Martial Artists and Military Master
Close Quarters Combat Instructors.
Bill
suggests training and only using techniques thay are suited to
yourself - variances will
include
age, height, disabilities and skill level. He
says the strongest weapon you have is your mind.
"Believe in
yourself. Doubt creates fear. Have a predator mindset when
required and have the confidence to know when to turn it off
control!"
Though
it addresses most scenarios, Defendo training is geared towards
dealing with the common and simple strikes
characteristic of most
fights:
Swinging roundhouse punches - Front kicks - Rushing tackles
- Knife Slashes and Stabs & Ambush attacks
When you have to, “accept the pain, survive and react strongly”.
“It’s all about going forward,” Bill Johnson explains, “if
you are on
the back foot, then the opponent has momentum and you definitely do not
want to be in that situation.”

Gross
Motor Skills are the key to Australasian Defendo’s
fearsome
attacking principles, because the stress of fighting makes fine motor
skills all but impossible for the average person to execute.
“Teaching
Close Quarters Combat skills to students should not take
years to achieve,” says Bill. “It can take only weeks to get a total
beginner to be competent and effective with devastating attacks and
awareness skills. We use the K.I.S.S principle.....
"Keep It Simple and Savage”.
All
drills in Australasian Defendo are designed to use Gross Motor
Skills targeting vital points of the body, which do not require
strength or height. The
System is very effective for women, children, the military and Police,
who are restricted by backpacks, webbing or weapon belt holsters.

Techniques are energy
efficient, requiring small movements that
conserve energy in case there are multiple opponents
and, if on the
ground, enable one to fight aggressively with restricted movement.
Training drills can be conducted safely with correct supervision, but
obviously there are moral and legal considerations that must be
addressed in a real confrontation.
